The authorities of University of Development Alternative (UODA) paid homage to language martyrs on the occasion of Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day.
Teachers, students and staff of the university placed floral wreaths at the makeshift memorial at Faculty of Fine Arts premises in Dhanmondi area of the capital on Wednesday morning.
Addressing the programme, Founder and President of UODA Professor Mujib Khan announced full free scholarship in honour of the language movement martyrs.
Mujib Khan along with UODA Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Rafiqul Islam Sharif and Registrar Professor Dr Iffat Chowdhury handed over the scholarship to five students.
University's Computer Science and Engineering department student Md Jahidul Islam got Tk 240,000 as the recipient of Shaheed Salam Scholarship.
Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) Department student Anjuman Ara Borna received Tk 168,000 as the winner of Shaheed Barkat Scholarship.
Shaheed Rafique Scholarship worth Tk 216,000 was given to Pharmacy department student Ayesha Alam.
Another BBA department student Imran Hossain got Tk 168,000 as the recipient of Shaheed Jabbar Scholarship.
Pharmacy department student Mamataz Begum received Shaheed Shafiur Scholarship worth Tk 240,000.
Later, a cultural programme was presented by the Music department of the university remembering language martyrs.
Popular actor, model and singer Chanchal Chowdhury also took part in the cultural programme.
On February 15, the UODA authorities announced to create an opportunity for five students in each semester to get full free scholarship remembering language martyrs.
